Harmony Heights students are generally referred to us by hospitals and schools that deem further care necessary. Our program is an alternate to long-term hospitalization, serving instead as the next step in care, nurturing teenage girls with a less restrictive, more home like environment. Throughout the years Harmony Heights has assisted hundreds of girls and their families in getting the help they need. Students attend Harmony from throughout the New York metropolitan area, including Nassau and Suffolk Counties, New York City and Westchester, Rockland, Duchess, Putnam and Orange Counties.  Harmony enrollment is approximately 70 students with 30 residing at the Harmony residence and the remainder attending as day students who are transported to Harmony by their local school districts. Our girls at Harmony have a history of a variety of emotional problems including:
  • Depression
  • Eating Disorders
  • Attempted Suicide, Suicidal Ideation & Gestures
  • Phobias, School Phobias
  • Self Injurious Behaviors, Cutting
Although some of our girls have learning disabilities, many are referred because of underachievement; and Harmony’s goal is to help our girls realize their full potential. We do not accept girls who are aggressive, acting-out or a danger to others, nor do we accept girls who are drug or alcohol dependent. Harmony Heights represents a beacon of hope to girls whose lives have been disrupted by emotional need. Hope happens at Harmony Heights. It happens when girls suffering from feelings of poor self-worth and depression find themselves transcending those feeling to become happy, self actualized young adults ready to face the world with optimism for the future. While many of our girls return to their home schools, the majority of our girls graduate and go on to college. Among the colleges our girls have attended include:
  • Adelphi
  • SUNY-Stony brook
  • SUNY-Farmingdale
  • Temple
  • Nassau Community College
  • Smith
  • John Jay College of Criminal Justice
  • Mount Holyoke
  • Ithaca College
  • Barry State
  • C.W. Post
  • Suffolk Community College
